Hepatitis ACT work in partnership with individuals and the broader community to reduce transmission of hepatitis and support people living with hepatitis to access the services and supports they need. Hepatitis ACT operates a secondary needle and syringe program (NSP) outlet from their premises (opposite O’Connor shops). People seeking NSP services are able to also access a range of hepatitis information, resources and support. Hepatitis ACT is funded by various sources, including ACT Health to deliver information and promote health awareness related to viral hepatitis, liver health and liver diseases.
Hepatitis ACT operates a secondary Needle and Syringe Program (NSP), distributing sterile injecting equipment to people who inject drugs. Distributed equipment includes: 4 packs, 8 packs, 25 packs, water, syringes, cotton wool and disposal containers. Hepatitis ACT is focused on providing the following services: information and education of hepatitis, training and workforce development, health promotion, harm reduction services, resources distribution, hepatitis C testing, support, advocacy and referral.
In-house testing for hepatitis C under the point of care testing (POCT) program is available . It is a very minimally invasive finger prick test which gives you a result in an hour.
GP consultations, script distribution and ongoing support for people who have tested positive to hepatitis C is available.
